Arts Alive and Well in our Homes

Art is described as an unstructured and open-ended form of work that expresses emotions, feelings, vision and relies on artistic merit.

“Art’s Alive and Well in the Schools” is a yearly art exhibit put on by all the Lethbridge city schools within the Holy Spirit Catholic School Division, Lethbridge School Division and École La Vérendrye. It is displayed in cooperation with the Southern Alberta Art Gallery and usually takes place in the spring.

This year looks quite different in so many ways! Considering our current reality, we thought we’d plan “Art’s Alive and Well in…Our Homes!” and we’re hoping you will participate. With your help by encouraging your child to create, photographing their works, and sending them in…we’ll have an art exhibit that will make up the 43rd annual “Art’s Alive!”

Here’s some information that will help you…

  1. The link to send your art is:  https://www.lethsd.ab.ca/departments/instructional-services/arts-alive-and-well-in-our-homes.  Simply answer the questions so we know what category your artist belongs and who to credit for the amazing artwork.
  2. Please submit only one piece per student.
  3. All artwork, unless inappropriate, will be displayed. Remember, this is for all students from Kindergarten to Grade 12, and therefore needs to be G-rated.
  4. Need some ideas? Here’s a website that might help: https://babbledabbledo.com/80-easy-creative-projects-for-kids OR submit something your artist has already completed!
  5. Please submit by April 22, 2020.

After we’ve received all the submissions, we’ll put them together on the Lethbridge School Division and Holy Spirit Catholic School Division websites. The Southern Alberta Art Gallery will also be promoting this exhibition. The launch date is planned for May 1, 2020.

There will also be an opportunity for everyone to vote for their favorite works on the Lethbridge School Division website after the launch date. On May 22, 2020 the votes will be tallied and an announcement will be made about who got the most likes.

Need a bit more inspiration? See some of the works from “Art’s Alive and Well in the Schools 2019.”

Remember, the purpose of this event is to enjoy the artwork of our students and share the joy of creating and displaying their art. We hope you’ll participate and share the love!
