Let us be grateful that we continue to have a publicly funded Catholic Education System in Alberta that encourages religious freedom and allows us to educate our children in our Faith.
To celebrate, we'll be joining with our provincial partners in commemorating Catholic Education Week from May 18-22, 2020. Join the Bishops of Alberta in Livestream Prayer at 9:00 a.m. each day:
- May 19, 2020 - Bishop Terrio, from the Diocese of St. Paul, will lead in the Holy Rosary
- May 20, 2020 - Archbishop Pettipas, from the Archdiocese of Grouard-McLennan, will lead in the Divine Mercy
- May 21, 2020 - Archbishop Smith, from the Archdiocese of Edmonton, will lead in Holy Mass
Holy Spirit Catholic School Division will also be joining with all of the schools across the Diocese of Calgary to celebrate a special Mass with Bishop William McGrattan on Wednesday, May 20, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. Everyone is encouraged to join us, especially as this will be the final Mass held for this school year. To access the Mass, visit the Diocese of Calgary's webpage.
Our schools will also be highlighting the amazing things taking place on their websites and social media channels.
World Catholic Education Day
World Catholic Education Day is held on the Feast of the Ascension, 40 days after Jesus rose from the dead on Easter Sunday, which takes place this year on Thursday, May 21, 2020. Holy Spirit Catholic School Division is asking everyone to recognize World Catholic Education Day joining our communities in wearing blue and using the hashtag #BlueforCatholicEd.
Why blue? Blue signifies constancy, fidelity, genuineness, and aspiration and is especially associated with the Blessed Virgin. Like Mary, we aim to cherish, teach, and guide our children to have a genuine and loving relationship with God.
Join us in Prayer
It is always appreciated when you pray for our Catholic schools and students! Please join us this week in particular:
